Opis książki:

This book sets the task of producing a framework that permits a unified and precise discussion of spatiotemporal, modal, and probabilistic notions, the result being models of stochastic outcomes in branching space-time (SOBST). Each of the three konds of notions - spatiotemporal, modal, and probabilistic - is necessary in the derivation of Bell-type theorems. Yet, thet have up to now been appealed to only informally in proofs of these theorems. In this essay Bell-type theorems are analyzed in SOBST models. These models represent modalities in terms of Boolean algebras of families of outcomes of events, which leads to a powerful representation theorem for probabilities. The analysis centers upon the viability of determinism, of a locality condition, and of a contraint on probabilistic causality, i.e., Reichenbachs screening-off condition. The result is this choice: either indeterminism with locality, or determinism without locality, there being only slight reason for preferring the former option. The book will appeal to anyone interested in metaphysics, philosophy of physics, and modal logic, and in particular to students of the metaphysical implications of Bell-type theorems.
