Slavic studies at the turn of a new century
This publication contains proceedings of a conference Nauczanie języków i literatur słowiańskich na progu nowego wieku (Teaching of Slavic languages and literatures at the turn of a new century). organised by the Chair of Slavic Philology of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań on lst-3rd June 2000 at Obrzycko near Poznań. Traditional Slavic studies wrongly defined cultural relations with non-Slavic Europe since in the centre of its interest was the Slavic myth as a reflection of the Germanic myth which imposed an approach whose characteristic feature was confrontation isola-tion and separation of Slavic world from Europe. Therefore, a new approach to Slavic studies is indispensable and there is a need to design new Sla-vic didactics according to the formula of intercultural dialogue, making Slavic world a participant in the dialogue between the Western and Eastern tradition in European civilisation.
