Autorka traktuje tę odmianę literacką bądź jako odzwierciedlenie archaicznych sentencji, maksym, aforyzmów, przysłów itp., bądź jako wyraz światopoglądu samego poety. Zarysowuje strukturę epinikionu, w którym gnoma wraz z opowiedzianym mitem i elementami enkomiastycznymi gra rolę podstawową.
Maxims in Pindar s poetry
The present book is the result of studies in gnomes and long gnomic sequences selected from epinicians and fragments of Pindar s odes. The task of this dissertation is to investigate Pindar s maxims as elements of the structure of the victory ode as well as ideas or general truths which are present in the poet s mind. The first chapter of this book is devoted to a presentation of the origins, evolution and character of gnome. The first section of the second chapter focuses on the position of gnome in the structure of Pindar s epinician. The second section deals with the significance of key words which recur throughout Pindar s maxims. These words were chosen as a criterion according to which the author has tried to classify gnomic statements.
