Opis książki:

A legend is like a river.
Springing from mankind down the centuries, legends are the sisters of history, in the words of Voltaire.
The Legends and Mysteries of Cracow. From king Krak to Piotr Skrzynecki is the album that accompanies the exhibition under the same name. The exhibition was organized in the Historical Museum of the City of Cracow between June and November 2005, as a part of the celebrations of the Grand Jubilee of the Act of Location of the Capital and Royal City of Cracow. It was written by Anna Szałapak, an artist, singer, ethnographer and the curator in the Museum, whose ideas and devotion brought the exhibition to life. It presents some of the best known legends that had arisen during Cracow`s long history, as well as their historical background. It is divided into nine parts (titles), arranged in the chronological order:
I. Legendary origins of the city
II. Customs and rites
III. The outskirts of Cracow
IV. A letter from heaven
V. Kings travails and the most famous saints
VI. Tales of renaissance Wawel
VII. Magical Cracow
VIII. Legendary words and deeds
IX. Legendary artists
Each of them is richly illustrated by the high quality reproductions of some of the Polish most outstanding artists, whose works were presented during the exhibition. The reproductions were made by Rafał Korzeniowski - the photographer working in the Historical Museum of the City of Cracow since 1996, for whom documenting the beauty of Cracow is a real passion.
The album was published by the Historical Museum of the City of Cracow in 2005. It won The Best Cracow`s Book of August 2005 award.
